6 month diet....not losing weight
Hi everyone,
I am not sure if anyone knows anything about this. However, I'll try anyway....
I have Cigna, and am in the beginning of my 3rd month of the 6 month dr. diet.
I have some co-morbs...high blood pressure, gerd, joint problems exasperated by
bursitis, fibromyalsia (not a comorb, but awful nonetheless)...
My concern is I have had deep cortisone shots in my hips and feet....a total of four
times...within a year.
I can't loose any weight on this darn 6 month diet....in fact I've gain 2 pounds. I have a sinking suspicion that it is the cortisone shots that are doing it......
It seems to be a catch 22, in the fact ...my joints and bursitis kill me, because I am fat.(bmi 36).
If I get my WLS, then my newer lighter body may improve enough, that I may never need another shot again. But if I am not losing in the 6 month diet,, will I be denied? Have the shots disqualified me, that I need because I'm fat...but that WLS can help me immensely?
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, I am thinking the cortisone also works on my anxiety...which is partly responsible for my rather whiney, long post....sorry guys.....
Hey Paul,
You raised some good issues. I am thinking never to take anymore shots from now on anyway. The research I've done on it points a lot to the negatives. I really do like how it cuts out the painful inflammation that makes it hard for me to somedays even be able to walk across a room. However, it may not be worth it, if down the road it has seriously harmed me. I even wonder what the shots do to my liver.....
I have heard that Cigna is a pretty good company. at least they are flexible.
Boy, if I had to lose 10% of starting weight, I just don't think I could do it, but it would even know my BMI too low. I want to have PERMANENT fatloss.
Thanks Paul for your gracious help.
Best to you,
Vicki
Vicky, I just finished my 6 mo supervised diet in December. I ended up gaining 2 lbs at the end. I lost at the beginning, but towards the end I didnt try as hard. Surgeon's office submitted my packet on Jan. 30 and I was approved Jan. 31st!!!
I also have Cigna. They were very clear what they wanted me to do before being approved. Actually losing a specified amount of weight was not one of them. I followed all of their criteria and turned in everything they requested. You should be fine. You are attempting the diet...thats what they asked you to do.
Good luck on your approval!!

Oh Kathy,
Your post was a beam of sunshine....
Thanks...
I was wondering what they wanted from you. Do you mind
sharing?
I hope all goes well and I don't end up self pay in
Mexico. Although I know those docs are very good, but my
budget is tight, and I have other health concerns.
How is your lap band doing for you? It it working out?
Best regards to you!
Vicki
