Hello everyone,  I have a couple of questions. My husband and I both are considering WLS. My husband has already met with Dr.Boyce. His is was formally JD and they merged with UHC. He called and check with ins and was told would covere if medical necessity. And then he called after met with Dr. and was told would not covered it was an exclutions(different rep). Why do insurance co rep not give you a staight answer????  Jamie weighs 258, has diabetes, sleep apena, acid relux and high blood pressure. He has been diagnosed for 10 years. And has struggled so hard with his weight going up and down. No being able to lose weight and keep it off because of all the medication he takes. His blood sugars have never been really under control. One of his doctors told us he has type I and type II diabetes. And that is why he has such a hard time. I don't know how true that is. We have not hear dback from ins yet but if we are denied does anyone every get approved if appealed if WLS is not covered? And for me I have had trouble qwith my weight about 10 years also, I have a pituitary tumor and it caused allot weight gain. I had tumor removed and still have the wieght. I have been able to get to 200 lbs, but I am 5'2 and with BMI of 37.5 I am obese. I have high colestrol and Hashiemoto  disease (under active thryoid). No matter what I can't get the weight off. I have tried everything. My is too is UHC and was told not covered for obesity treatment.  To me it makes more sense to have  WLS covered, cause in the long run it will save the insurance co money. It needs to made for insurance co to cover it.  After all we don't want the surgery for fun of it. We want it for a better way of life.
