Hello,

I have a friend that has this insurance and she is considering have the lap-band. She has been told that her insurance has the exclusion written out of the policy. She is very upset over this. It has taken her a couple years to even consider having surgery, and now she finds out that it may not even be covered. ( I had rny 8 months ago, but never had any insurance problems, so I don't really know what to tell her). I do know that she has more than enough co-morbities that it should be easy to get approved, but I think that because she thinks it may not be covered, she is scared to even try. So I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions. I told her that she won't know until she tries, but I think she is just scared of the denial.

Thanks for your help!

My husband's insurance was with BCBS of GA HMO and if there is an exclusion its pretty hard if not impossible to get that overturned.  Most of the time you have to go through your companies HR department to see if they will pay to have it added back into the policy.  Luckily for me I found a new job that carried WLS on their policy.
