Anyone with Great West PPO !
Hi everyone. First let me start off by saying I have just signed up with OH today and have felt so much love and care from everyone. What a breath of "much needed" fresh air. Its great to listen to everyones stories and comments. Now here is my dilema......
I have Great West Healthcare PPO and my BMI is 46 so I dont need medical conditions but do need the 6 mth required diet. I have been seeing my PCP almost monthly since July of last year and the month prior was on weigh****chers. Will that count as my 6mths or do I have to start fresh as of now. I went to my PCP concerning this surgery in November and he put me on diet pills and Lexapro for mild depression but have not experienced any weight loss. I am on another diet pill now and am determined to lose weight but wanted to know how long I am going to have to wait. I am very scarred to get my hopes up so if anyone has any advice with this please let me know. Thanks again and I appreciate everyones help!

Hi Natasha.
I too have health insurance with Great West. I am into the 4th month of 6 month medically supervised diet. My surgeon's weight loss surgery center gave me the diet history requirements for Great West and they said GW pretty much holds you too them. If you like, I can send you those requirements for the diet history. The requirements I have said you must have completed the 6 month medically supervised diet in the last two years.
Also, did you find out of surgery is an excluded benefit with your insurance?
Upon guidance from my care manager with GW, I've been going to Weigh****chers weekly (except for weeks here and there I couldn't go) and see my PCP monthly. My PCP is documenting what I am eating and my exercise. I also am seeing a therapist (had one already) to meet their structured behavorial management requirements.
You need to contact your GW care manager and explain to her what you are doing.

Hi and thanks for the comment. Yes please send me any information that you have. I need all the help I can get. My email is [email protected] I wasnt quite sure what you meant with surgery being an excluded benefit. I called and so did my surgeon's office and they will cover 90% once I meet all the requirements such as the 6mth diet. I just want to be sure my PCP and I are doing everything accurately and timely so Im not disappointed after 6mths. Thanks and cant wait to hear from you.
