New insurance after starting preop program?

Hi everyone...  I started this process over the last month, on my husband's insurance.  However, due to changes in cir****tances, I will be able to get my own insurance also soon.  I am wondering if the new insurance company would have to cover this also?  I know that pre-existing conditions usually hamper somewhat, but I thought that there was some sort of regulation specifically to stop preexisting problems from happening when you're enrolling in a new group plan.  I hope this makes sense... If it helps at all, if I accept this job, it would be BCBS-CA, which covers this surgery with almost no problem.  Right now I am on hubby's, who says that they cover it, but they cannot tell me much more in detail yet since the hospital he works for just recently switched insurance companies.  To further complicate matters, his hospital system is in direct competitian with the clinic that provides my care and who would be doing this surgery, so it may not cover it at all as a network expense.   I hope all this makes sense--if not, please ask me to clarify anything and I'll try.  :)  Basically, I want to know if BCBS-CA would pick up this process and approve the surgery since I am a month into the preop program (dietitian visits, psych visit scheduled, orientation attended, and so forth).  Thanks!  Alisha Peterson

If there is no gap in coverage more then 4 months there is no waiting period,   The new company would only cover it if it is their policy.

Thank you very much, Gary--That's what I was thinking from former research on Enbrel and insurance changes, but was not sure.  I will ask my potential companies if there is any way that I can contact someone who would know.  In my field, there often isn't a really well versed person for benefit information, but hopefully I will be able to contact someone somewhere.
