3 years medically supervised?

Hello all.  In reviewing my insurance policy for WLS, it says the following:

"You have a documented history of failure to sustain weight loss with medically supervised dietary and conservative treatment for at least three years, including within two years before surgery." I've been under constant supervision by my doctor for 4.5 years due to co-morbidities, with appointments averaging every 3 months.  I have dieted, lost and then gained back several times during this period.  However, the diets were on my own (WW, magazine diets, etc).  So my doctors records show my up and down weight.  I can even go back to my previous doc and show that I lost 40 pounds right before moving and switching docs. Has anyone ever had 3 years as a requirement, seems like so long?   Has anyone ever had success just having regular doc appointments showing weight going up and down for the required period and it worked for approval? Thanks.

Actually they are looking only to see that you tried, dieted and failed to sustain the weight loss, which is what you did!  Three years is excessive, but I've seen some like that before.  As long as you can document your weights frequently during that period of time and your PCP occasionally mentioned that you were dieting and what the results were, I think you will be OK with that.

You know, that amount of time is terribly excessive.  A person could very easily die from co-morbs in that period.  I really feel bad for you.  I have been complaining of 6 months, and when I hear of your case, I really should be happy with mine.  It just goes to show that society considers morbid obesity is a character flaw vs a disease.  Like we havent tried to diet all of our lives.  I have literally dieted myself into obsesity.
