Submit now or after 6 mos?

So... I've taken a new job b/c I finally found one for whom WLS is not summarily excluded.  It takes effect 1/1/07.  I've already found out their guidelnes/requirements.  One of which is 6 mos. MD supervised weight loss. Here is my question:  Do I go ahead and submit knowing I'll most likely be denied pending the completion of my MD wt. loss program?  OR do I wait to submit and then deal with whatever comes up then.   Oh- and I'm only contracted with this company until 6/1/07- So I'll have to COBRA after that- and I'd rather not do that for very long! ($$$$) Thanks for your help! Kirsten

Thanks so much for the info! You sound exactly like the resource I've been needing! I will definitely NOT be staying in my current position.  I took about a 40% pay cut to take this position just for the WLS coverge.  The company I'll be returning too (for whom I've worked about 2 years) has a WLS exclusion (and its an ERISA plan so it's exempt from states requirement of coverage).  SO...  faster is definitely better! I also appreciate your help with the documentation of the 6 month program.  I've been wondering how well I should do on the plan.  I understand the benefits of losing the weight first- but after trying to get coverage for so long- I just want it DONE! Thanks again for your help! I look forward to receiving the info from you! Kirsten

Take a look at my post in the main section pinned to the top on this very topic, and good luck. Make sure your doctor is very detailed on the diet history, weigh ins every month, plus comments etc.. and the type of diet your doing.  Low calorie are the words normally appearing in most plans.
