I'm not morbid enough... Need some documentation.

For those that follow the plight of other DS'ers, the main reason insurance rejects us is because they deem that the proceedure is still investigational. Well, there's so many appeals out there that have that overturned, that my insurance company, BC/BS of MN, has come up with a new one. I'm not morbid enough. My BMI is 47.3 and I was told that I was denied because my BMI wasn't above 50. How does this make ANY sense? So, I'm gathering all the papers, journals, reports and such and will try to bury them in evidence that this is an appropriate surgical option for me. The health industry has got to take a good look at itself. Jerks... I know, they're looking at the bottom line, but so am I. My health. My life style choice. etc.... So, if you have any documents/studies/appeals in soft copy that can be emailed, can you shoot them my way? I've gathered what I could already from the references tab. You should post this on the DS board if you have not already done so.  I know there are some pro's over there about getting surgery approved via insurance.  Good luck!

I understand your frustration. I have BC/BS of Oregon, and they also require BMI over 50 unless you have a comorbidity.  Some other insurances just require over 40.  T Stay optimistic, and hopefully it will work out for you!
