BMI Question

Sorry if this has been asked a dozen times, but I couldn't find it on any previous post.  My ins (like most) requires a BMI of 40 and a 6 months docter supervised diet.  If my BMI is right at 40 at the beginning of the diet, then it will no doubt be below by the time the 6 months is up.  Will that disqualify me?  I know if you don't loose weight it will, but if I do loose some weight, then it will put be below 40 since i'm right at the boarder line.   TIA! Grae

That is a really good question. WOW!!!!! Did not think of that. What you can do is ask the person at the doctor's office that deals with billing and insurance they will be able to help you I am sure.  Let me know I am interested!

You can do a 6 month dr. supervised diet and fail. I didn't mean to fail the diet, but I did -- I gained 4 lbs.  I sought surgery in the first place  because I didn't have success dieting -- because I didn't have the control to do it without surgical help. You only have to do a 6-month medically supervised diet, you don't have to be successful.

I won't lie.  They very well could say no because you've lost weight.  It has happened before and I can tell you that as a fact from experience.   Will they cover 35+ with a co-morb and do you have any? If not, you really need to make sure they're not going to bump you.  I would speak with your surgeon's insurance co-ordinator to see what their experience is.
