As many of us know, WLS is only a tool.  We have to re-train our brains to have the best outcome.  Many issues come into light, especially after losing a lot of weight.  My main issue is weight gain again after 3 years out.  My question is, do you know if insurance will cover seeing a therapist after wls.  I have BCBS of MI PPO Community Blue and I believe my insurance now covers 50% of office visits for any kind of therapy, but that can really ring up after 4 or 5 sessions.  I guess I was hoping that weight gain after rny wls would be a "condition" after the surgery and maybe be considered differently because of it?  I know I'm probably grasping at straws, but just thought I'd throw that out there to see if any of you have done this.  I know I could really use some help in that dept. right now.  Any thoughts?? Thanks!  Theresa

Your mental health benefit will not change after WLS.  The rules change if there is frank mental illness caused by organic brain disease, ie psychophrenia, psychosis....therapy for an eating disorder doesn't meet that criteria. Have you ever atteded an Overeaters Anonymous meeting?? They should be in the phone book.  If you can't find them, call Alcoholics Anonymous and they should be able to direct you to OA. I would really recommend them for more face-to-face support in the mean time if you can't get therapy.
