I am also posting this on  the insurance forum, but I'm specifically interested in how hard it was to get coverage for a VSG.  I just learned this week that it might be an option for me. I have successfully fought my  insurance company, UHC PPO type plan, it's self-funded, though.  On Monday, we received approval from them for a RNY.  However, my surgeon's office is requesting clarification from them, as he wants to make sure a VSG will be covered if he decides once he's in to go that route.  Now I'm back to worrying that the battle will continue. Now, before you reply telling me to find another surgeon if he doesn't know what he's going to do until he goes in, I have serious health issues, and if you read my profile, you will surely understand. So, was it hard to get coverage for the VSG?  Do most insurance companies consider it experimental?   Help!  (Really.. HELP!)  I'm back to being afraid they're just going to watch me D I E.

Paul, Thanks for your reply.  I received approval in the mail today for the VSG.  Funny thing is, it's a carbon copy of an approval that they sent to the wrong doctor!  LOL.. they just want to make this take forever!!
