I am looking for a suggestion. I recently got Anthem BCBS PPO and found out they didn't cover wls on that plan so I called Anthem and found out that wls was covered under the HMO plan. I waited a month for the change to take effect and now that it has I found out that the HMO doesn't cover wls either. That lady at Anthem lied to me Well now that I basically have no insurance to cover wls I don't know what to do. Does anyone have a private insurance that has payed for wls? Any suggestion will help!!
Thanks bunches

Its more than likely that your employer has an exclusion against WLS with either plan. That is not the insurance company's choice, it is the employer's choice to exclude the surgery, thereby giving them a break on some of the premium. Your employer's HR department should be able to tell you if an exclusion exsists. Many BCBS plans cover the surgery, so an exclusion might be your problem in this case.
Unfortunately if you qualify for WLS, it is unlikely that any private insurance company would write you a policy due to weight limits or the premium would be astronomical and would probably not cover surgery for at least a year if ever.
Sorry I don't know of any way around that, other than to hire an attorney. Good luck.
