Medi-cal CA version of medicaid

Does anyone know whether or not medi-cal/medicaid will approve Lap-Band? I wanted to research before I asked my insurance to go through the approval process. I haven't found anywhere that says they will approve any WLS or not. Any advice on where to find the information. Has anyone had the surgery with medical/medicaid footing the bill? Shawna

Hi Shawna.. I did a search for my medical in my state and came up with lots of stuff. Try doing a Search in your City for your insurance. I know Medicaid in Washington dose not cover the Lap-Band (don't quote me on this hehe)  but, they do cover some of the RNY surgeries.  If you can't find what you are looking for on the net then I too would suggest calling your insurance provider. hi get on the net and look up medicade national coverage determinations. i'm on medicade and i'm waiting for all my papers to get sent in by my pcp and therapys they both r 100% behind me for the surgery.once they get their papers in i think i have everything i need then the waiting for approver.medicaid pays for differ surgery so you have ro read the papers to see .but, i think it do.but, see for youeself.check all insurance papers on medicaid.good-luck.
