I am trying to get my daughter;s paperwork submitted through UHC, and I always see approvals, however, I was looking way back on the posts and  I saw a post for UHC-choice plus exluding the surgery.  this is what she has.  Anyone with UHC choice plus ever been approved? Thanks for your help.

All are not the same.  It depends on the employer.  They may or may not have it included in the policy.  I dont know a lot about the insurances but I do know that the employer has to choose to cover it or not.  I have UHC POS and was approved because my employer has it in our policy.

Hi,

I have UHC-choice plus, and I have just been approved for the lapband surgery. The representative had a hard time finding the surgery on her list, but she checked under "reductions" and found it.  My insurance will pay %80 after I meet a $1,000 deductible.  The only problem is the facility is in network, the surgery type is in network, but the doctor I wanted to perform the surgery isn't!!!!  I am thankful, but disappointed.  Good Luck!

Hi... Thank you for your reply!  How long did it take for your approval to come in.  The doctors office sent my daughter's out yesterday for written approval)   Did you get the actual approval in writing from the insurance co?  I heard of many people with UHC -Choice Plus calling to their insurance carrier, and they say yes it is a covered surgery, however, when it is sent in for written approval they say there are exclusions and do not approve it.  Thanks for any comments.  Good Luck

I did get written approval from the insurance company...it took exactly 29 days after the doc's office submitted the claim.

Sorry to say that UHC insurance is horrible!!  My plan was the Choice 39 and they just flatout deny ANY weight loss intervention.  However, if you have a heart attack or a stroke, they will pay for your care for the rest of your life........go figure!!  I just paid 15k for my lapband because they wouldn't touch it.  And, they put the exclusion under Cosmetic Surgery.    Tell me that makes sense!!  I knew I needed to do the surgery so I went ahead and did what I needed to get the money.   Maggi

UHC isnt the problem it's your employer who chose not to cover the surgery.  I love UHC they are covering mine and I love the company I work for because they chose the coverage!
