Post-Surgery Independent Health Insurance

Hello All, Does anyone know of an independent health insurance program I can go through to get health insurance?  I applied with a company for independent (self-employed) insurance, but was denied because I've had bariatric surgery...even though my weight is now under the acceptable level since the surgery has been successfull!!   A little history...I had my surgery about six months ago, while I was employed as a full time employee.  Since surgery, I have changed jobs, but am now a contract employee with insurance under a 'self-employed group plan' that was provided to me by the recruiting company that placed me in my position.  While the benefits are great - and have covered every single post-surgery expense I've had (mostly just follow up visits), I pay just under $400 a month for health insurance!   But i can't seem to find a cheaper insurance agency that will take me now that I've had the surgery (other than the insurance that my contracting company supplied to me). Anyone run into this issue???
