Will I be denied if I fall below 35BMI on 6 month diet?
I am >37 BMI and currently in the 2nd month of my six month diet. My insurance demands at least a >35 BMI with 'severe comorbitities' (they won't define what the consider severe). I'm willing to lose weight, but wonder if they will use the weight loss or falling below >35 BMI to deny my application? I have MedMutual (Ohio Med PPS) insurance. Anyone have any experience or advice?

Nancy,
Most insurance companies go by your starting weight, not your ending. You should be fine.
Check with your surgeon to confirm that he/she will perform surgery on you once you lose the weight. I imagine you will find that it won't be much of an issue either.

Nancy,
I agree with the last poster. My insurance (kaiser) requires a 10% weight loss. My doc (pcp) told me that they go by your highest recorded weight to determine your BMI.
I have begun my diet and already I have dropped to a BMI below 40 (the requirement of Kaiser), but no worries, because they go by my old BMI of 40.5!! Good luck and talk to your doc if you are still unsure. Don't know how your doc is, but mine is good at returning questions either personally or via his nurse.
