My insurance doesn't cover anything obesity related. They cover the surgery if it is medically necessary. I took the MMPI test in about 1 hours time and they said it would take 2. I just answered the questions with the first answer to pop into my head, no thinking or analyzing. Good luck, Cheryl

I went to a doctor that was on my provider list and only ended up paying $76 of the bill -- which was a great deal!  Check your insurance handbook or website and see if pysch services are covered and then find a doctor that is listed as a provider and that should get you started.  Good luck!

Susan: I was told by the clinic I went to that I would have to pay for it upfront ($175) which I did, and that they would submit it to my insurance (BCBS of MI) and that if was covered, they would reimburse me.  To date, I have not been reimbursed and that was almost 5 months ago.  Mine took less than an hour.

Howdy,  I had two psy eval. the 1st one he charged me $400 cash.  I did get about $140 back from insurance but he wanted the $$$ upfront.  That appointmen t lasted 3 hrs.  The 2nd one ( due to insurance approval mixup) was done with a diff Dr and so far I have not gotton a bill.  I had to pay nothing upfront.  This Dr works with my Surgeon.  So I think they have some kind of deal.  I can also call or see them anytime for free.  Both I had to take a 400 question test.  MMPI  Questions like do you want to be a florist?  I love my mother?  ect......  Two things they found out was that I really didnt want to take the test--- said i was hurried....duhhh and I am more male then female....cause i work...?  Good luck...

Susan,  I was told by my surgeon staff that is the only thing that is not covered by BCBS-PPO of california and my Surgeon had a doctor that she would give discounts to their patients, so I did go see her, and paid $175.00 Cash!,  it only took 1 hr, then I was told by the same staff member that if I get the surgery, I can send BCBS-PPO my reciept and try to get it covered. Ask your surgeon for a referal, maybe it won't be so high. good luck,,,,

My psy eval for wls was not covered by insurance so I had to pay the $200 out of pocket but get this I scheduled 3 therapy sessions with the doc that did my eval and they are completely covered by insurance.  I just have to pay my copay each visit.  I don't get insurance at all.

$650 seems outrageous to me!  Have you checked with your surgeon's office for a recommendation on a doctor?  That's where I found mine. My insurance covered psych services, but only after my deductible is met and then only 80% of the fee.  So I paid for the whole thing out of pocket, but it was only $90 for the 3-hour session.  I think he has some special pricing set up for people who are referred to him by the surgeon's office, because I can't imagine he'd make any money at those rates.  Check with  your insurance policy to find out what is covered for psych services.  Then check to see if they have a list of doctors within your service network that will accept your insurance.  Much easier to do it that way then to just open a phone book and hope for the best. The other thing to look for is how long it takes for the doctor to get the results from your psych exam to your surgeon's office.  Mine was REALLY fast.  In fact, I knew that I'd passed before I left his office and his report was faxed to my surgeon by the end of the business day.  I guess when all the questions are computerized it makes things go faster.   Good luck! Pam
