My insurance policy contains an exlusion that reads treatment for "weight loss or obesity." Will I have any luck arguing for treatment of morbid obesity or is it a blanket statement and not even worth it? Thanks Maureen

I would think b/c it says such a broad statement that it wouldn't be covered. Call your insurance until you get someone compitent, also... ask who makes those type of decisions... and try to get thier #!

I agree definately call your insurance company yourself and get the information first hand.  Be sure to get them to mail you a copy of exactly what your policy states too.  Just because a policy contains an exclusion for weight loss or obesity does NOT mean it excludes treatment related to morbid obesity.  My policy also excludes any treatment for obesity, but covers treatment for morbid obesity including weight loss surgery.

My insurance policy with BCBS (BlueChoice) has the same exclusion.  However, I have noticed some people on here have found that those terms "weight loss treatment or care for obesity" - speak to programs like Jenny Craig or WW.   I would call your insurance company to make sure.  I plan on doing the same.  My insurance switches over in January 07 to BCBS (Anthem) so I'm playing the waiting game.

My insurance policy excluded "treatment for obeisity and weight loss".  But somehow they do not include surgical treatments in this exclusion.
