2006 vs. 2007 Insurance question

I have a question I'm hoping someone can help me with. I currently have Cigna and they require the six months of documented weight loss program that is doctor supervised. I have been doing this since August. Obviously, I will not meet the six month requirement this calendar year. It just occured to me (when I received my open enrollment forms) that the requirements, or more importantly, whether or not my company excludes WLS, might change in 2007.  My company is sticking with Cigna so I called Cigna and they told me that they only had info about the nsurance policy that I am currently enrolled in ... they could not tell me anything about the 2007 plan. Has anyone else encountered this? Is there something I should do? Would it be beneficial to me to have the surgeon submit for approval to Cigna now (this calendar year) even though we know I haven't met the 6-month requirement?  Any help is much appreciated

I'm in the same spot with open enrollment for next year. Call your HR dept and ask for a summary of benefits and exclusions for next year. I have Cigna and if at all possible I will not next year. Tom

Your human resource manager should have something within the next two weeks at the latest for 2007 coverages since you will undoubtedly have an open enrollment period for the new year.  It has been my experience that the paperwork is slow to come, however by the end of the calendar year you should have it if they do open enrollment.

I have Definity Health which is billed through UHC and I called them a couple weeks ago and they were able to tell me if WLS was still covered in 2007.  In my opinion  I think you should call back and try to find someone who is willing to help you.  Your insurance company should know what your policy is after all you are in open enrollments...so they have already decided what to cover and what to exclude.

Thanks to everyone that replied. I will call Cigna back today and see if I can get a different answer. There is a part of me that is scared to call my HR department. I sort-of feel like I don't want them to know that I'm trying to do this. I'm not sure if it's because I think they will try to block it somehow ... or if it is just out of the embarassement that comes with being obese. Thanks again for everyone's help!
