This was in my insurance letter that I got today requesting lots of stuff.  This one is a new one for me....I haven't seen or heard of it before. "Second opinion evaluaton by a contracted Internal Medicine physician not associated with the patient's primary care doctor or bariatric surgeion". Thanks for any input anyone can give me.   Dee

They are just looking for an independent evaluation of your numbers, conditions, and fitness for surgery by someone who doesn't have a stake in the outcome. I'm sure your doctor is a fine upstanding surgeon.  However, like anything else there are surgery mills out there that will try to approve anyone whether they are at risk or not just for financial gain. I would find a IM Doctor in your network who could do an evaluation for you and schedule an appointment.

It sounds like they want you to get a second opinion from another doctor that is not your PCP or a weight loss surgeon.
