Need Help
I am in need of some help. I have been trying now for over 5 yrs to have the RNY surgery, but due to changes with my medical I have not been able to get in touch with a doctor. You see, I am on medicaid and I live in WA state. I had already been to two doctors and both said I needed the surgery and even my PCP said so and said she will help in whatever way possible. The problem is this, the doctors that I seen have since stopped taking medicaid patients and I have tried in vain to find one other then at the UW, which I am on the waiting list for, but have not found one as of yet. I am 40 yrs old a mother of 4 children, two of which are under the age of 9 yrs old and I want to live long enough to see them grow up. My weight is 368 and I am 5'7" tall. I have diabetes, arthritis, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, depression, agoraphobia. I am on social security so don't have the money to do self pay and want to be able to get this done within the next year. I do not know what to do next to help my insurance pay for it or find a doctor that will take my medicaid? Please can anyone give me some help? I can travel to Oregon or Idaho if I can find a doctor that will work with my doctor?
I'm only minimally familiar with Medicaid (my brother is on it).... yet that is NY medicaid... don't know how much (if any) difference from state to state. What I would recommend is start to with your case worker... he/she should be able to refer you to either a clinic or private practice who accepts medicaid. Then you can take it from there. at this time, I wouldn't worry about it being a "new" doctor unfamiliar with your case (like your previous doctors)... your new doctor will be able to refer to your medical records forwarded from your old doctors... this will show him your history regarding weight and complications. good luck.
