Well I was denied! I got the call from my surgeons office this morning saying I was denied because "I continue to over eat, I gained 10 pounds, and that I won't be able to follow post op diet. Has anyone out there had this reason? I will appeal, but I don't know what to say. Any suggestions appreciated.

Find a different surgeon. There are alot of good ones out there that don't require you to looses weight before surgery. Mine didn't and still doesn't he has a great support group and his patients are highly successful. Dump the doc, find one to work with you.

Hi Jane, Thanks for the advice, but the weight gain came from the ins co. I got the letter today and it says: Denied completely because: there was a weight gain during supervised diet and no reassessment done to determine the reason supervised diet failed.  The information provided does not indicate that you will be able to follow the strict post surgery program required to make surgery a success.  Therefore the request for gastric bypass surgery has been denied as not medically necessary.

Look for another insurance co. I changed mine to Health net and they approved me right away. They didnt even use the 9 mo. supervised diet required by the other insure.
