BCBS of MN (lap band)

Quick question for anyone that has them: I went in for my consultation last week and discussed with my surgeon the surgery. He stated that they would write up a letter and send for preapproval for surgery. I asked if i needed to have a Psych eval or meeting with a Nut (as i have not done an supervised diet etc). The nurse told me no.  Is this normal with them? After reading so many posts about psych eval and supervised diets-- i am a little concerned that i am not on the right track with this and that i am wasting time by even hoping to be approved by just a letter. Any experiences with this would be so appreciated-- when i reviewed my policy i thought it said that i needed the psych eval etc.  I was wondering also time frame on approval from them--  Thank you so much -- read so many stories of people struggling and my heart goes out to you all-- God Bless!! -Mandy

Take a look at your policy and see what it says.  See what the requirements are.  The psych part may not be required, and if it is silent as to the diet, your ok. G

I have MN BCBS and I needed a supervised diet and psych eval, but maybe it depends on your policy.  I called the customer service number and they read my policy requirements to me.  I would suggest talking to them.   I am waiting approval right now... they are very slow and I'm very impatient.  Good luck with your journey.
