Have to have 6 months of diet, again
I have all other pre op done, the diet that was supervised was over 2 years ago so they are making me do it again. But the good thing is that that is the only thing holding me up. so 6 months from now hopefully I will be writing to say I was approved and got a date.
My feeling is that maybe I can lose enough weight to not need the surgery or at least I have the holidays to enjoy without thinking about the pain from surgery, etc. .
I have aetna hmo for insurance.
The insurance requirements are so vague. I doubt anywhere it says the six month diet has to be within a certain number of months.
I would make them quote the requirement of when the diet has to be completed within. Bet they cannot do it. Now five years go maybe but two years ago!!!
You are probably still better off doing the diet again instead of fighting it but it is pretty iritating. If this is through your employer you could have your companies insurance contact person ask Aetna about the time requirements and see what they say. I would.

I have contacted the surgeons office and insurance company,
The surgeons office says as you stated, it would be easier and less time comsuming to submit to the 6 month diet that to try to fight and still end up getting the surgery in 6 months.
So I am starting the 1700 ada today and am going to really try hard!!!!!! I also am going to exercise 3-5 times a week.
Maybe I will lose a few pounds in preparation for the surgery.
Hope
I have already done that and guess what? Now my insurance company just told me today that I had to do all the requirements in "a certain order." The funny part is all the information they sent to me say nothing about a particular order. The information they sent stated it all had to be done within 3 years.
God forbid if I lose 5 pounds... will they deny me it because they feel like a second six months is a success based on a five pound loss?
You might want to get the criteria for denial now before going through six months of a second round of diets that won't necessarily work. I'm seeing the games all to clear Wausau Benefits and Fiserv pull on people.
