PHCS exclusion

My insurance states it will not cover any treatment related to morbid obesity.  Any ideas on what I can do to get them to reconsider?  Kim

Are you sure it doesn't have (unless medically necessary) underneath? I have PHCS, and that's what my summary plan says... but of course, PHCS is just the insurance company.... not the specific POLICY, which would be determined by your employer. can you copy (word for word) what it says regarding "surgical treatment for weight loss" (or similar phrasing) so we can get a better idea?  some have their exclusions written kind of vague so you THINK there's no way they'll cover it and don't bother trying, when in fact you MAY be able to get it. Then again, some exclusions are written so it's pretty cut and dry. good luck.

Kim, I have PHCS-PPO and it states: It will not cover treatment for obesity but covers WLS. PHCS is not an insurance company. Any thing that's excluded is due to your employer. My PHCS doesn't cover nutritionist/dieticians which is weird! BUT covers surgery.
