I have a question. I am beginning my 6 mo diet with PCP and dietician. Can my PCP put me on Meridia during the 6 mo to help me lose?? Or does the insurance want to see you lose without help from weight loss pills??? Thanks for replies!! Michelle

I'm with BC/BS Texas, and my denial letter actually stated that my required 6-month medically supervised program can include pharmacological therapy as appropriate.  So, my doctor prescribed me some diet pills, and I took one and let me tell you, I was wired for 2 solid days! I took it in the morning, and couldn't sleep that night, and still felt the effects the next day. That was it for me....no more diet pills!! I didn't ask about Merida, but I'm sure that would be in the "pharmacological" catagory.

Hi Michelle, We have the same surgeon.  I just finished my 6 month pcp dieting program and Dr Chylsta is going to submit to insurance.  I got a copy of what my insurance requires. (since I was denied earlier)  one thing they requested is that you try diet pills like Meridia.  I tried it and it made me feel "strange and moody". So my pcp contridicted me taking it as part of my weight loss.  Which is fine with me considering it was almost $100 a month.  Do you go to the support group meetings?  I go for my 2nd psy eval today.  I should know in two weeks if I am approved or not....  Best of Luck....((hug))
