I am very interested in finding info about surgery for my husband. We currently only have insurance for me/kids. I would like to find this info in where we could pay maybe monthly dues. Does anyone know where to find this info. I would greatly appreciate any info on this matter where to start, who to talk to, where to maybe start insurance that covers this for my husband.....How long he would be off work, what kind of surgery he should get etc.. thanks.

My understanding is that you'd need to work directly with your surgeon's office.  Often a facility will give you the same price that the insurance companies have negotiated which would be much lower than the "regular price".  Expect a price range of between $17,000 and $35,000 depending on which surgery and what type of after care the surgeon's office offers.   HTH Pam

Hi, hope all is well, this might be able to help, my daughter had hers' done in Mexico, and I am also thinking about having it done down there.  She has done enormous research on this doctor, and facility.  She came out real well and its been two years now. The website is    draguirre@derivac... or you can go to Obesity surgery Mexico, his name is Dr. Alejandro Aguirre Wallace... Jennifer Carlsen, from Balt. MD was his patient, and the total price is around $10,400.  Good Luck, TUG

There are basically 3 surgeries that are being commonly performed -- and one that is recently gaining in popularity -- these are the most common the Band (Lap Band), the RNY (Roux-en-Y) and the DS (Duodenal Switch).   And then there is the VSG (Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy).  The VSG is great if you have a lower BMI or for very young patients. You need to compare your specific needs and goals with the statistical outcomes of all the surgeries.  Make sure that you interview a surgeon who either performs all 4 types of WLS or interview different surgeons.  (Trust me; your surgeon won't sell you what he doesn't offer.  Don't ask a Ford dealer if you should buy a Chevy.  ) Don't rush into anything!  I know how desperate I was when I finally decided that I needed medical intervention.  Had I been able to proceed without delay, I would have ended up making choices that I would have regretted. I had researched for over a year, and finally had my surgery done in April in because my insurance wouldn’t pay.  So take your time, educate yourself and prepare yourself physically, mentally and spiritually for this new life.

so 17,000-35,000 is that just for surgery? .. or is that hospital costs and everything???  because im having trouble finding  insurance, they keep denying me because of my current weight. so im thinking i might have to pay for it on my own. a friend that i had talked to said she got a paper stateing it was 73,000 but her insurance covered her surgery, she didnt have to pay anything. but if i have to pay for it on my own i cant afford that much .. under 50,000 is the best i can do. any info would help thanks! -amanda-
