if BMI < 40 after medicare precert diet??
hi. im confused about this.
i just started my 6 month diet for medicare of michigan. i asked my pcp if i lose weight will i still qualify for surgery? and he said "lets not think like that."
although he seemed supportive of the surgery. had me start on vitamins, gave me a list of reading materials and what have you. he is a good dr.
but for medicare u have to have a bmi of at least 35 with comorbities or a bmi of 40 or higher.
my bmi is 40.9. i havent went for my sleep apnea test so i dont know if i have that yet. other than joint pain and depression i dont have any cobormities.
i'm worried if lose 10 pounds in six months i'll drop below 40 and not get approved!
i'm using fitday and exercising so i will lose a bit of weight. my dr. is very thorough and i'm going to give him my fitday printouts. i want my RNY surgery desperately. i'm between a rock and a hardplace i think.
if i lose weight, my bmi will drop and i wont qualify. if i dont lose weight, medicare might think i'm non compliant and wont comply with the post op way of living.
i dont know what to do.
please help. i need some serious answers.
thankyou everyone.
hi paul. thankyou.
i have an appointment oct. 9th to see if i have sleep apnea. i have to go in monday to get blood drawn to see if i'm diabetic. i'm not sure about the cholesterol, that was probably included, i'll ask when i go. he's a part of the bariatric clinic here in Flint so he is pro-surgery.
i'll know more after the test results. hopefully there's something. there Should be.
what other tests should i have him do to see about comorbidities? i have knee pain, but how can that be proven or tested? i'm also bipolar so i dont know if i could relate my depression to my weight in terms of documentation. but they are related!
