I am happy to report that I got approved on my first try!!!!! AHHHHHHH it feels so good to know all I have to do is relax before the big day on the 16th. I am going to have the sleeve and even the surgeon's office wasn;t sure I would be approved for my surgery because my insurance, empire bc/bs, still thinks of this procedure as experiemental.

I've been approved! I finally got up the nerve to call my insurance today and ask if they had any information. The c/s guy asked if I was ready to write...I said, well, I'm driving! I was on the way to work. He said, well then, I've got here that it was approved, just approved and a letter's being sent. I asked if I would get a letter or the surgeon's office, and he said the surgeon's office.  I told him I didn't know which way it would go, but i really hoped and couldn't help but be so surprised and happy! I called the surgeon's office, and they didn't have the letter yet. I remember the insurance rep saying something about August 3, so that might be the approval date. I think it was sent in the beginning of the week before, so the 3rd or 4th week in July. I was prepared to call by this past Friday (August 3), but I chickened out! I had decided that if it was denied, I'd rather get a letter than hear it by calling them. LOL Oh, I have BC/BS of MN. :)

I think I've set a record......just 2 days. That's from pcp to bcbs hmo Il. yahoo!!!

I WAS APPROVED!! I have Empire BCBS.  Paperwork was received this morning and got phone call at 2 pm.

That is fabulous.  I see Dr. Chapman on Tuesday morning and I sure hope BCBS approves me quickly.  Are youg oing to the support group meeting next Thursday?  I plan to be there.  I 'd like to meet you.  I work at the hospital so it's real convenient to go to the meetings.   Alice

I have BCBS FEP I just talked to the insurance and I have been approved, of course I have to wait for my letter.  Submitted 8/8 approved 8/13.  Then I will ahve a date.

I just got approved!! I barely had to do anything just faxed my papers from the doctor and had to send in a sheet(with no doctor signing off on it/it was an excel spreadsheet from my own computer) with my start and end weights for all the diets I've tried and I got approved within 15 minutes! My surgery date is Sept. 13th but I might have to change it. I'm on cloud 9 right now but I am a little nervous too!

The surgeon's office sent in the paperwork on 8/3, on 8/8 I contacted the ins co and they said they were missing the 5 yr history of morbid obesity and the psych eval.  I contacted the surgeon's office.  They said they had sent my entire file which had both in it.  I faxed the 5 yr history from my own records, and the surgeon's office faxed the psych eval.  BCBS of IL received all info and forwarded to the medical review department on 8/13.  I called ins co on 8/14, and they had just approved and were sending out the letter that day.  I had them fax the approval to me so that I could fax it to the surgeon's office, but the surgeon's office won't schedule anything further until they get their paper copy of the approval in the mail.  I am anxiously awaiting that phone call from the surgeon's office.
