I got my approval today! It took approx. 5 weeks from the time I saw the surgeon. It would have been 2 weeks sooner, but I was not complete enough with my diet history. I have BCBS Fed Employee Plan and all they asked for was a letter of medical necessity, which my surgeon did. Now I have 5 appointments (Pulmonologist, Nutritionist, Psychologist, Behavior Group and Ultrasound) which I hope to have done in next 3 weeks and then wait for a surgery date!

I am new to this site and found it by researching wls. I submitted my papers to the doctors office on 9/10/07, the office faxed the papers to Aetna FED PPO on 9/12/07 and I was approved after doing the 3 month supervised diet.  I am awaiting a surgery date. Should hear tomorrow.

I got my approval last evening! YAY! I started the process on August 20th(restarted really, but I won't count that) I have Tricare Prime Remote. My approval took seven days. I think it would have been quicker, but I have so many co-morbidities that my file had to be referred to "THE PANEL" Things should go really quickly from here on out. Tricare approvals only last 30 days- so we have to MOVE. Here's what it took for me to get approved: BMI 40+(mine is 43) Two Co-morbidities( Mine are Coronary Artery Disease, Insulin resistance, PCOS, Familial Hyperlipidemia, Severely high Triglyceride, depression, metabolic syndrome, hypertension, and sleep apnea) Psych Eval Go Ahead Nutritionist Go Ahead release from cardiologist(because of my Early Onset Coronary Disease) primary care physician referral 6 month supervised diet(this is new to Tricare as of August 2007. It does not have to be a program like WW, Jenny Craig etc...-just a record of how many calories, weight, bmi and hieght for six months, signed by your doctor)   Tricare was very good about helping me know exactly what I needed. I have to give a shout out to Rose Greco- my case nurse. She was soooo understanding and caring...and she called me at home to let me know the good news. I'm so excited!!!! Hugs, Angie

I am approved! I had all my paperwork together (including letter from PCP and counselor) when I went for my consult on September 24th. The surgeon's office faxed to Federal Blue Cross Blue Shield on October 3rd in the afternoon. I called the morning of October 4th to check if it was received, and it had already been logged into their system. As usual, I spilled my guts to the customer service rep about how excited and nervous I was. About an hour later he called me to tell me he had gone down and asked them to expedite my request. I was so grateful - what a nice thing to do for someone! So, this morning he calls me and tells me I have been approved. I am going to have to write a letter to his supervisor about him going above and beyond the call of duty.  I was "penciled in" for surgery on November 5th, so I am just waiting for the nurse to call to confirm. I am so grateful for the support and advice I have received on this board!
