Mon. I was approved Fri. I have a date!! BUT...
Could be that 2 years ago when you had your gallbladder out you had already met your deductible. OR your insurance plan might have changed and they added a deductible. That happened to my husband's insurance last year. All of a sudden we had to pay a deductible. Of couse now I would be tickled pink if all I had to pay was 500.00. My part is 500.00 deductible THEN 20% after insurance pays 80%, my out of pocket maximum is 3000.00. So I am looking at around 3500.00 coming out of my pocket. If I was you I would feel lucky that you only have to pay 500.00

This may sound crazy, but it works. I had to make a thousand bucks last summer and did this. If you don't have a digital camera, get one, it doesn't have to be expensive. Wallyworld has them for as cheap as twenty bucks. Then, start ebaying as hot and heavy as you can. If you can devote just a couple of hours a day...you can make that money fast. Only take paypal and you can get access to the money almost immediately. SELL, SELL, and Sell some more. Put things on half.com...books, movies, music. YOU CAN DO THIS. As for why no one told you upfront, most surgeons and their offices deal with a multitude of insurances and in the words of my own financial counselor, they never really know what to expect. Don't feel so bad and remember that you can make this money if you put your mind to it.
It could be because your gallbladder surgery was considered emergency and therefore they billed for your deductable but your WLS is considered electitve and the the hospital collects deductables upfront for electives. I have medicaid as a secondary...in January I was going in to have a hole in my heart closed and the was shocked to find out the day of that the hospital wanted my primary insurance's $1500 deductable upfront...2 years ago I was hospitalize for a DVT for 2 weeks and never had to pay a dedeductable actually I never saw a bill from it medicaid picked up the reamainder. When I asked the woman in billing about just billing me since I have a secondary, she said medicaid doesn't cover elective procedures...I was like a hole in my heart is elective!!! But in basically with the DVT, as maybe with your gallbladder they couldn't deny services.... but I had lived 28 years with the hole sure it did need to be fixed but I could have stayed on some medication longer. I was lucky to still be active in another insurance's system that only had $500 deductable and paid that....
