Aetna PPO...approved with only a day to spare!
OK, the freakout is over...received the approval today for surgery this coming Tuesday (and not a moment too soon). Here's what I did:
- Six month diet/exercise program with my PCP, with monthly visits/weigh-ins and kept documentation from FitDay on diet
- Visited a counselor specializing in WLS and a nutritionist, each every six weeks or so throughout the last several months
- I saw three specialists: a pulmonologist, a cardiologist and an endocrinologist. Diagnosed with metabolic syndrome, obstructive sleep apnea and restrictive lung disease, all over the course of this year, along with existing asthma and osteoarthritis diagnoses.
Not sure if this is of any use to anyone else going through this process...my PCP was good about documenting everything but she did not write a final letter (she just sent the notes to my WLS surgeon). But I saw a lot of other doctors and they sent their notes as well, and I worked as hard as I could on the diet/exercise thing (didn't lose much but did lose some, and BP, while good to begin with, is even lower now).
Thought someone might want to see good news from Aetna for a change...was a lot of work but hopefully worth it!
