Experience with Medicare????

Can anyone give me any type of informationon dealing with Medicare. My mother-n-law has Medicare and her Doctor has recommended the Lap-Band for her. She is in her 60's and would love any information. Iw ill print out the replies because she is not Computer literate at all. Thanks, Darlene

Medicare, as of 2/06 covers all three types of surgery, including the band, as long as it is performed at a center of excellence.  You can find those at www.asbs.org

I am on medicare and also am with Group health's (HMO) medicare advantage program. (I am 44 disabled).. How that works is what medicare doesn't pick up (doesnt pay for but covers) my HMO will.. HMO's usually does not send you anywhere except to their own drs and surgeons so how would that work if one has to go to a "center of excellence" (whatever that is)?

HI  DARLENE  I  WAS    READING  THROUGH  THE  POST  HERE  AND  NOTICED  YOURS  I  KNOW  IT  WAS  POSTED  AWHILE  BACK.  I  TOO  HAVE  MEDICARE  AND  MEDICADE  IWAS  TOLD  THE  INSURANCE  HAD  TO  INSPECT  THE  FACILITY  BEFORE  APPROVING  ME  I  HAVE  TO  WAITE  45  DAYS  IT'S  ONLY  BEEN  15.  THE  FACILITY  HAS  TO  HAVE  A  CERTIFICATE  OF  EXCELLENCE  TO  GET  APPROVED.
