That's actually very true and never thought to tell anyone about that. Hmmmm. . .you've got me thinking.
A lot of SPDs or EOCs will have the written policies regarding weight-loss surgery as well. Checking those before starting along the process will nip a lot of the questions whether coverage is available or not. Of course, with any document, not all SPDs are created equally, so you still may have to follow the above steps.
If you do happen to contact member services, I would request that you get what they are telling you in writing. I work in member services from time to time, and I cannot tell you how many members I come across who have been given incorrect information regarding their benefits.
Awesome information about though!
You can get the information regarding weight-loss surgery from your explanation of coverage, which would have been sent to you when you signed up for the plan. If yo do not have one or have been signed up for the plan for sometime and are not aware of changes, contact member services and ask them to send you out an "explanation of coverage" or standard plan documents.
All the information contained in those documents will be basically what's available on line, including the need for any precertifications, referrals, and details on coverage.
You should also be able to order the documents online; it might be listed as collateral.
I hope this helps you.
I just went to the site and searched again. I find nothing at all like you describe. I have talked to the rep at the number on the back of our insurance card. I requested a book like you described. They said I had to get it through my employer. I tried that but the HR person at work is new and can't find the books either. My job is a little unstable with lots of things going on so it is not a priority for them to find it right now. ERrrrrrrrrrrrr! I will try again. Thanks for your help. If you have any other suggestions I would be glad to hear them.
Yeah, I can understand that they are too busy, but legally, they have to provide you with this information especially considering you are possibly looking to seek services.
If it's not a huge issue for you, then wait around for them to turn over the benefits manual to you. Personally, I would think you would want to get started as soon as possible.
Sorry you are having so many issues.
