United Healthcare approved my LAP RNY today, the paperwork was faxed to them on Monday and today is Thursday. They were very nice and helpful, hopefully I will find out my date on Tuesday.

Congrats! I am waiting for UHC to approve me also. But they gave me the wrong departments fax number so for 3 1/2 it has beens sitting in customer service when it should have been at Care Coordination. Hopefully I can post my approval soon too! Good luck, Dena Becker

Wow!  That is really fast!  I have UHC Choice EPO.  I work for a very large company and there have already been 18 people just in my department that have had the Lap Band procedure done under this plan.  I called UHC to check status of my authorization today and they said to call them back on Friday to see what the results are!  Wish me luck! Congratulations!

I have UHC, Choice plus and they won't approve me....my policy has an exclusion, I'm working with an attorney, wrote my state senator, and I'm fighting to have the appeal x3 overturned, I can't give up. How do you know what plans will allow it and which ones won't??? and why won't they let me add a rider, i offered to pay the extra money for it.....they're being stubborn and won't budge, I've been trying for over a year...sincerely, frustrated.....

It's more than likely a employer exclusion and has nothing to do with uhc, as your employer has made the decison for uhc. the best thing to do is appeal and if this doesn't work you should sue under erisa if you would like. also make alot of noise, tell them you are going to the local news and writing your sentor and so forth. someone will eventully take notice, and possibly over turn it. as i am having to go threw the same thing, and another lady had done all this and they paid for her surgery.  good luck.

lgbdrb,     I was told that there were some changes to UHC's requirements and they were having 5 years of documented of weight and 2 years worth of non-surgical attempts of weight loss.  Is this true or did anyone else have this issue?
