I know,I'm not suppose to chew gum,but my mouth is so dry all the time,I do occasionally. Last night,New Years Eve,my husband and I were at a dance, dancing,I took a deep breath, because I was winded, and swallowed my gum!!!I tryed to make it come back up in the bathroom, but it wouldn't.Has any body else had this problem?Should I call my surgeon? Is there something I could take to dissove it? I can't call my surgeon till Tuesday because of the holiday,so I don't know what to do. I am 6 weeks out from my Lap RNY.I would appreciate any help anyone has. Thank You, Deb

Hi Deb, First I'd call the surgeons office or another medical pro, just to be safe. Can you eat peanut butter? If so, have a bit. It will make the gum pretty much disintegrate, so that the next time you eat, it can pushed out with that food. My brother swallowed a piece of gum at about six months out, and this is what he was told to do. I hope it all works out ok for you. I understand about the dry mouth thing. I am going to miss my gum after the surgery. I am addicted to sugar free Dubble Bubble. Take gentle care.- Shelley C.

Hi Deb, Talk to your helath care provider. I was told that as long as it was not a big wad of gum (just a stick) it should pass through. However, I was given this advice at a year out.
