My Pouch...Is it the size of an egg or a grapefruit?
I am a little over a month post op. I went thru the first three weeks as I was supposed to (clear liquids, full liquids) but when I started pureed I found I couln't stand it so after a day or two of pureed I found myself eating in the 'soft food phase'. I'm worried that jumping to soft foods has expanded my stomach or something because I'm able to eat a lot more then I think I'm supposed to. I just ate 3/4 of a chicken salad and only walked away feeling comfortably full but by no means did I feel really full or the need to throw up. I could have finished the salad for sure. I've also eaten some bread, rice and foods cooked in grease....... all with no problem! I weighed myself on Saturday (on a weigh****chers scale.. not my usual scale nor my usual weigh day because I'm out of town) and I actually GAINED a pound! Now don't get me wrong, just because I appear to not have any physical limits, does not mean I'm pigging out. In fact, generally speaking I'm not eating much so maybe that's why I'm able to go thru a whole salad. If I didn't trust the integrity of my surgeon I'd swear I got robbed (I paid for my surgery myself) and that nothing was actually done since my 'pouch' does not seem to be the size of an egg/golf ball by a long shot but more like a big grapefruit. Anyway fogive the long post but I'm just worried that I've spent all that money and this won't work. Is there anyone that can reassure me? Thanks!
Hi Rosalind,
I think I am in the same boat as you. I had my surgery the end of May. I have never dumped, I have never vomited and can eat anything without it bothering me. Currently i can eat between 5 and 6 ozs at a time. I am realizing how different everyone is at this. For me, I am not going to be able to eat the breads and rice, fatty foods, sugar foods etc and that the only thing that is going to help me is me. I was hoping I would get sick from sugar and all the bad things I consumed preop but since I don't this WLS is simply a tool and I am going to have to exercise a lot of will power too in order for it to work.It makes it harder for the weight to come off when you have to work harder at it but I know it will be worth it in the end and perhaps my character will be stronger for it too. Good luck. Don't worry about the 1 pound gain. Just do what you need to do and it will come right off.
