Food Makes Me Sick!
Since the middle of July I notice that most of the foods I tolerated since surgery (such as chicken, pork, beef & most vegetables) now make me really sick. Recently, I've started sticking my finger down my throat to throw up & I usually feel better within a few minutes. I'm not very hungry anymore & I have to force myself to eat 3 meals a day (I can only eat 3 to 5 bites of food).
I seem to be fine with eating fish, salads, bread & fruit so I know I'm getting enough to eat. I get plenty of water & drink 2 protein shakes a day (yuck). The sick part is really taking its toll though.... often I only throw up white foam & saliva.
At one point (almost the whole month of June) I was actually concerned that I was eating too much because every new food I tried, I tolerated very well & was able to eat lots of it! Anyway, I wondered if this "new" food intolerance was typical.
Oh well, I guess I shouldn't worry too much. I generally feel pretty good & I'm losing weight & inches. Let me know your stories of "delayed food intolerances" & if they eventually resolved themselves.

Hey Nancy,
I am having the same problem too. I now hate food and am having trouble eating 3 times a day and 2 snacks. I also can't stand the protine shakes but I am still trying to get that.
To answer your question... My Big sister erin whom is 4 years post op. says that this happens and it does get better. she told me to just find like 2 or 3 things that do taste good to me and stick to it until I get my taste buds back. the problem for me is that everything taste nasty now. so I dont know. just keep trying. I trust my sis and if she says it gets better then I believe just that.
hope this helps
Hi Nancy~
I had RNY on 7/9/03 and in 9/03 I had the same problem. I could not nor wanted to eat anything. I was throwing up foam and thinck saliva about every hour at one point. I had a dilatation done, but threw up right before procedure, and was throwing up right after in recovery. I was finally hospitalized. I had thrush and a bacterial infection along with malnutrition. I was put on TPN. I lived on Zofran for awhile. I still vomit on a regular basis, several times a week, and will be having surgery next month. Even though my surgeon said this is not "normal", I think it is more common than we think. It seems like alot of people get this, as a girl I know had same problem around the same time as me. Also, I feel that I always here about women having problems, but not men ( my husband also had RNY on same day as me and has had NO Complaications Thank God). I am 2 years out and have lost 195 lbs, but have had a 10 lb weight gain over the last 6 months. Surgeon assured me this is normal also. Feel Better Soon and know you are not alone!!
