Marsha, I'm with you on this. For me it is because I gained 45 lb. while preggers with our 2nd baby bugga. I've lost 15 lb of it but have 30 lb or so to go. I am 2.5 years post op LAP RNY and a little more than 3 months out from having our daughter. I too am in search of ways to get it off again. Funny thing is I didn't start eating and gaining until way into my 2nd trimester. UGH! Looking forward to some answers myself. ladies, first off I want to say Hi, Its been awhile since I posted on this board...I am almost 26 months out. I have put back 4 lbs since my lowest weight. I know it is not that much weight but, 4 lbs now means 8 lbs later and so on.I do great all day, but I fall back into bad eating at night. I am trying to circumvent this issue before it gets real bad. To answer your question, I started this past Monday and went back to basics, High protien and keep my carbs to a minimun and I am drinking extra fluids to try and stay full. Try this and also try to slow yourself down when eating. I will let you guys know if anything changes with me..good luck and if you need any more info or help feel free to email me.. ALso Hi to all my buddies on this board...I do miss you all

I am just coming up on my two year anniversary. I did great for the first 16 months and then last Christmas I tried a few sweets and discovered I could eat them - what a mistake! It's been a battle ever since - now I'm up 10 lbs. from my lowest and I never reached my goal, still have 20 lbs to go! I sure hope someone give us some good ideas. I agree with the guy who said go back to basics - high protien and cut the carbs - I start that every morning but by night I'm right back in my bad rut.

I added high fiber items, whole grain, fresh whole foods, cereal, Fiber one Flakes, protein, protein Add a low fat and carb shake. I add 1Tbs whole flaxseed, 1tsp inst coffee, 2/3 splendas, 6 ice cubes 1/3 to 1/2c water or ff soy to 30grms choc protein. Its great. I use a spoon to eat it. I have read that a "protein fast"{protein and water only for 3days} is the way to shrink the pouch. I an 2yrs 5 days ou****ER< WATER< WATER>WATER>WATER>WATER>WATER>WATER>. go back to the basics

I will be 4 years post op in the beginning of September, have about 12 more pounds to go. Try these, they have been the crux of my success... 1. Write down everything you eat even if it is something that you think is "off limits!" 2. Measure everything you eat...if you are eating outside the home, ball park it, but get good at making guesstimates by measuring everything you can! In other words, know what a serving of pasta looks like, or an ounce of cheese, or two tablespoons of dressing, and keep a running total of the calories that you eat as you eat them (I walk around with a large calorie counting book and a pad of paper)...you may be shocked! 3. Read all labels...if it has a lot of crap in it, don't eat it! 4. Weigh yourself every day. If you are writing down what you eat and taking responsibility for what you put in your mouth, you will know why and how you gained weight. Don't let a 10# weight gain turn into a 60# gain by ignoring reality. 5. Exercise every day...30 minutes of walking will change the shape of your body. You don't have to be out of breath, just get out and move! 6. PLAN, PLAN, PLAN what you are going to eat every day! Make a meal plan for the week, or a day ahead and get the foods that you need to stick to your plan! 7. Stop playing the old tapes in your head that got you to be morbidly obese! You are successful, you can do this and you deserve to live a life that is healthy, normal and reasonable...but you have to make it happen!!! 8. Guess what? That pouch that your surgeon told you about that is so small and will limit your intake of food so that you will lose weight...you know the one? It isn't the size of your thumb anymore!!! You can probably eat much more now than you could weeks and months post-op...right? So it must be bigger...right? Here is the my big secret (free for those reading): THERE IS NO SECRET!!! THERE IS NO CURE ALL!!! IT IS UP TO YOU TO MAKE THE LIFESTYLE CHANGES THAT WILL MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL AND KEEP YOU THAT WAY FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!! 9. Think of how much more successful you are today than in the past and build on your success. It takes a while to catch up with what you look like today, so go to the pictures of you when you were really fat and compare how you are today vs. then. Keep the pictures with you always. Show them to other people. This will reinforce your success! 10. Most important...the unthinkable is acheivable...just take control of your life and know that everybody has ups and downs, it's what you choose to do with them that will make all the difference in the world!!!

I gave up on this website because of all the "newbies" chatting about their difficulties. I was looking for a web to relate to for those of us over 2 years out. Thank you for posting on this one. I, too, am having a great deal of trouble with "crunch" carb foods. I'll eat anything in sight and of course, I get hungry for more. I have tried to not buy it, but I don't really want to eat tuna, salmon and hotdogs all the time. Cheese I have on hand all the time, but that gets boring. That's the cause of my eating carbs. Proteins are boring to me. I drink a lot of protein drinks, however, from Susan Marie Leach' website. She has tasty products. Malitol in foods just wastes me. The gas is unbearable. That is the only way I can stay away from fake products. I know what I have to do, but eating protein first "forever" is just not in my thinking at this time. Help with some psych answers to overcome the carbaholic addiction (when I know what I should do). Am I stupid (no) or not!!!!Marilyn

Granted I am nearly 4 years post-op, but what is all this about protein first and protein drinks? Never heard of such a thing! I can tell you that I had to navigate the whole eating thing on my own because I had no interest in the 22 year old size 2 nutritionist who tried to teach me about the food pyramid...and the support group that celebrated the feeling of fullness from eating one pretzel. I guess I was lucky and found someone locally who taught behavior modification, exchanging the behaviors that made me fat, with new ones that are positive and life long. With that I suggest the following: 1. Start eating food and stop drinking shakes! You have to eat like a normal person to be a normal person! 2. Read my submission from 8/20 in the reply trail from the original question about surgery 2+ years out. 3. You have identified one of your major triggers above (SIGHT, you say you eat everything in sight), so no, you don't need a psychiatrist...you are learning and it is all a process. 4. Yes, you know what you should do, but just because you had surgery hopefully they did not lobotomize you...you are still the same person playing the same tapes and mindgames that made you fat in the first place...the surgery made your stomach smaller, but it did not change the things that made you fat. 5. Only you can make changes in your behavior. If you are angry then deal with the anger...don't feed it. If you are tired...sleep, don't eat! If you are sad, deal with the sadness or cry or whatever...a bag of pretzels never made anyone happy! 6. You are not addicted to carbs. Don't label yourself...this is negative and you are on a path to success. You LIKE carbs, and they seem to call your name. Alas, you can have carbs...but just remember just because some is good is does not mean that more is better. 7. Plan your calories and your meals and stick to your plan. This includes preparing meals and having what you need on hand. 8. Keep a food log and write it as you eat it...and don't lie to your food log. It's only for you, and if you want to be successful, you will take responsibilty for the process including the ups and downs along the way. 9. Weigh yourself everyday! Even after you have eaten a whole bunch of crap...you can't let a 5# gain turn to a 50# gain...this will wreak havoc on your heart, but more than that, on your mind! 10. Stay in touch...I read this forum a lot, and lots of stuff on it makes me want to scream, but know that we are all in this together and it is not always smooth sailing...so let's support one another. Even if I can't relate to the protein shake thing...I can tell you that I every day I am running from the fat monster, and every day I get closer to the finish line and make him eat my dust!!!!!!!!!
