Hi there....I'm 4 months post-op....doing well, about 68 lbs down...but my new food of choice is POPCORN....just the microwave kind....but I eat it and don't have any problems. There's hardly any sugar in it, just probably lacking any nutritional value...but it's been able to curb my snack cravings. Is eating popcorn O.K.? I don't have an appt with my doc for another 3 weeks...I've called and left 2 messages for my nutritionist but haven't heard back from her. Thot I would post here and see if anyone might have asked about popcorn. Thanks for any info....Sincerely, Susan

I am almost 5 months out, and made the mistake of telling my DR. that I eat popcorn. I eat it with my 2 viactiv caramel calcium, it taste like caramel popcorn.( I like it) But my Dr. says no snacking. He said popcorn will not fill you up and has no nutrition in it. But I still eat it some, not alot of it though.

This March will be my two year WLS anniversary. I had lost about 110 lbs, but ten of those pounds keep creeping back these past few months due to me snacking too much. Popcorn and other carbs seem to be the culprit. I have not been able to give up the popcorn and try to justify it by eating the new snack size bags. It seems like I can eat a lot more than I did a year ago, but still get full faster than I did before surgery. I say if you can keep your snacking to a minimal you will do just fine. Now me, I'm a train wreck waiting to happen

Susan, 4 months post-op your snacking should be minimal, and contain protein. Here is the song. "Protein, protein, protein if you don't eat your protein your hair will fall out. Fiber, Fiber, Fiber if you don't eat your fiber nothing will come out." Read the labels on everything you are planing to eat, make it count nutritionaly. Orville Redenbackers original--just popcorn(not microwave) 3T. Cal.120,fat 1.5g,carb 29g. fiber 6g, protein 4g. Looks o****il you look at the carbs, high for the number of proteins grams. Carbs can peak your blood sugar and cause you to get hungery sooner. Popcorn is a complex carb so it does have to be broken down in the system to be utilized. So popcorn does not cause the dumping syndrom, like simple sugars do. Will the popcorn hurt your new stomach or intestine, sounds like you are doing ok. I would not have concidered any seeds, nuts or kernels until 6+ months post-op and/or checking with my doctor. Plus the need to get that 60 grams of protein in per day does not leave much room for Carbs. Your choice of a small serving is a good one. The question of eating popcorn comes up often and there are many opinions, as to when eating popcorn is safe and nutritionaly sound. A better snack might be a AkMak cracker (not for new post-ops as it has sesame seeds) and a serving of string cheese. What you may need to address is head hunger and eating for emotional comfort. Good Luck, Andrea 3 years post-op and still adjusting my lifestyle habits. And I love popcorn

If you can...stop eating it now before the habit sets in your lifestlye. Try to break the habit while you have a chance. Its really hard not to snack. My doc now told me NO snacking at all ... 3 meals a day and if I have a snack make sure its in the evening around dinner time and healthy. 'sigh' its sooo hard even after surgery! Hang in there! Thank you all...so much. Just getting a response from people in the same boat makes it that much easier.... I think you are right, Elizabeth...I am finding that I am craving it...just like an old habit (pre-surgery)...I just need to get creative with food...right now, my meals are boring - eggs, cheese, meat.... Thanks again....the comments have really helped! Susan

Before WLS, I was the worlds best snacker! Now, I drink milk and carnation mixture between my meals...that curbs my appitite until the next meal. I also crunch on ice, if I have the urge to chew...I know it doesn't have much flavor...but it does the trick for me. I am 10.5 weeks post surgery. We have been through alot for our weight loss...try to break that snacking habit, now! Good luck, Jamie

eat the damn popcorn. i had the same cravings at around the same time you did and it will go away. you will get cravings for all kinds of things and they go away. i went crazy with popcorn for awhile around 5months post op and know 1year and 7 months later i am fine and rarely eat popcorn. all i can say is i'm still alive and have not gained a pound. you don't have to listen to me but i know you can't possible even probaly eat half the bag i couldn't. don't tell your doctor what you eat. try what you want in moderation if it don't make you sick and you don't go crazy with and have control i say eat what you want. you'll be suprised what you'll beable to eat in months to come. just don't go overboard
