carbonation
at first within the first couple months it's all carbonated drink it makes your pouch feel like you just dropped an antacid in there which causes it to come back up... Plus with the soda which contains aspartame (spelling) that's in most diet sodas can cause food/ sugar cravings. If you flatten out the seltzer for at least a couple minutes I think you would be okay... just make sure it's not full of sodium like 100 mg or more.
Mike do you want me to say it's okay? I've spent the last two years watching two friend have this surgery and one has gained her 200 pounds back and the other has gained 65 and is still gaining. I can tell you they BOTH drink sodas, they are addicted. I'm sure you can find someone who says it's okay. It won't be me!!
Your so young sweet heart, please just keep learning! I'm four years out and I still learn something new all the time. I'm watching friends gain and it kicks me in the gut. You have a new life ahead of you, I read your profile and you also have a talent, don't wait till your old like me. You have a wealth of knowledge in ALL those diets you've tried, trust me they are all applicable now!! Everything that DID NOT WORK will work after surgery. The tool only works for about 18 to 24 months, baby that sucker, work the sh~t out of it!!! LOL It's all up to us and the choices WE make during that time. I still have a hard time consistatly making them now!! It's damn hard!!
Ten years from now you'll be the one telling someone else how to be successful!!!
You might try getting ahead of the game by switching to propel or some ~un~carbonated~ flavored water now. We have enough to go through after surgery!!
Michael,
I am still pre-op but gave up my favorite drink, diet mountain dew as soon as I went to the first orientation meeting and they said no carbonated drinks, I sat a can on my kitchen counter and said you are not going to stop me being thin,, threw it out and never looked back,, now I drink water, or crystal light
its no biggy, to give up the things that might defeat me
I am four and a half months post surgery. I have lost 93 pounds. I want to lose 150 more. I have given up sodas completely. I drink Crystal light and Country time lemonade sugar free. I sometimes miss a soda but then I think about what the alternative would be and I am to pass them by. I would have to say that if a person isn't ready to make some of these sacrifices that they wait a bit longer to have the surgery. I don't want to ever eat sugar again. I know people who have been able to but I just don't see why you would take a chance. I was obese for all of my 38 years. I want to LIVE the next 38 thin. Good Luck.
