Good luck on your upcoming surgery. You will probably get many different responses to your question. I do feel hunger, sometimes real and sometimes head hunger (especially right before that time of the month). This surgery is on your stomach and not your head; so if you have issues before surgery, you will still have them after surgery. I am working very hard with a psychologist to help control why I turn to food for comfort. The big difference is that I can eat very little food at a time. That does help with any type of dieting.
Hi! I had gastric bypass surgery June 16, 2003--over a year ago. I was 350 pounds, so I needed to lose 200 pounds. I have lost 112 pounds. I stopped losing weight so fast at about 6 months and every pound since then has been hard for me. I need to exercise more--but I have migraine headaches so much I am on disability, have fibromyalgia, and have been suffering from anxiety and depression since about the first of December. I WANT TO EAT to feel better!
I stuck to my diet through most of this time, but the longer I don't lose anything, the more I cheat and I eat sweets, my weakness. Not a lot because it makes me sick, but I eat a little between meals. I'm just at a standstill.
I go to a counselor and now to a psychiatrist trying to get control of the anxiety and depression. They are encouraging me to exercise and I need to! Is there anything special your psychologist has said to help you keep from turning to food for comfort? I need some help!
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Hello Ankush,
You may have had your surgery already...but I am just reading your post. I had my surgery on June 9th 2 weeks ago.
Its not that you will physically be hungry...your eyes and head want to eat.
I cried a few times due to depression, and the Dr. says that was from the drugs taken in the hospital. I regretted the surgery. My family BB-Qed and I like to died...I wanted to eat sooooo bad.
So what I did was...they had a cold watermellon for the kids. I chewed the juice out and spit out the pulp. It was wonderful to have that feeling of food and chewing in your mouth. All I got out of it was the juice (water)...but it was good.
I hope all is well with you and I pray everything went fine.

I can truly say that I have not actually had a physical hunger. It seems to be mostly in my head. I have gotten a lot better at not wanting to eat everything that I see. I am at the point now where food is almost a turn off for me, the smell, that is. I have been treated for a stricture, so maybe that had caused me to not find food appealing.
