Salad?
Kimberly,
I think the old addage is true. You can find anyone to tell you anything you want. My surgeon's plan calls for the reintroduction of lettuce with full fat dressing on week 4 post op and salads on week 6. I am three weeks post op on Monday of this comming week (May 24) and I am about to die...I will probably for the day is out get some lettuce, boil an egg, some blue cheese, some fresh bacon crumbles and turkey and have a protein fortified meal on lettuce...
The important thing about this surgery is prevent for the first 18-24 months the bodies absorption of calories and to control your portions. The surgery is to help us retrain ourselves into healthy eating patterns and portion control. I cannot tell you what is right for you. Maybe you should talk with your surgeon and share how you are feeling. The major concern is not chewing well enough and your anastimosis being plugged by the raw vegies.
Just remember, we all write our own food journal, what we can and cannot tolerate. Don't be afraid to research for yourself what is right for you.
Chris
Is this true? True according to your surgeon, yes. They all have different guidelines. I've heard some say eat what you can tolerate WHEN you can tolerate it. I'd wager your surgeon has had a couple of patients who've had trouble with raw veggies and that helped him/her to create this 'guideline' for you.
You've only a month to go. Hang tough
Hugs, Toots
