I've been veggie for a long time and was told I couldn't get the surgery if I was. I reluctantly started eating meat again. I'm 3.5 yrs out, and I can't stand it anymore. I have gone back to eating veggie and am wondering if anyone else is veggie after surgery. I know how to get my protein and i'm taking vitamins, so please don't bash about it.

I've been considering becoming a veggie too. I'm 3 months post-op and other than fish am having a hard time liking and eating protein. To be honest there isn't a whole lot I do like to eat. Yogurt and protein drinks go down the best. So, what do you do to get enough protein? My brother-in-law is vegetarian and doesn't really worry about it and he's very healthy and fit. Do we have to be more conscience of it because of the WLS?

I'm with you!

I have found it difficult to eat meat since WLS.  I was not a big fan before.  Now the only meat I eat is fish and that is not very often. I have fewer problems with the veggie diet than when I ate meat.

Most doctors do not know a whole lot about nutrition, its not their field of expertise.  If you have concerns I would talk with a nutritionist.

Good luck!

I havent been able to eat meats since my surgery.  I get my protein in by protein shakes & bars, eggs, cheese, yogurt  etc...  but definately not from meat.

I don't understand why your doctor would tell you that you cant have surgery if your a vegetarian.  There are so many other ways to get your protein in.

Good Luck

I have been a vegetarian for a few years and I told my surgon that and he said it's fine, the dietition said it was fine too as long as you get your protein from something. I will be having my surg in a couple weeks.

I was vegan for a couple of months and loved it!  If it weren't for financial reasons, I still would be. It is completely possible, but you will need to track your food carefully, and will end up being a snacker/grazer.  I was eating all day when I tried it, which was fine with me!
