I can't stop BAKING!!
I am 6 weeks Post Surgery. For the last two weeks I have been baking like crazy. I am not eating any of it though. I don't even lick the batter/frosting/dough, etc. off my fingers. I talked to my counselor and he said I should ask here if anyone has had a similar problem. Every day its something different. Cinnamon rolls, cookies, pumpkin pie, chocolate cake, and so on. Are there any other compulsive cookers out there?

Yes. I have been watching the food network nonstop and then I cook what I see. My family says everything tastes great.
Before the surgury I stopped eating red meat, lately I have been cooking lamb and beef for my family. I still don't eat it but I feel like cooking it. Not sure why this is happening.
One thing I do take into consideration is that I don't want my family to gain weight so I cook and serve small portions, NO LEFTOVERS :0)

I love to cook and bake, going to have my RNY surgery may 31,11 and so affraid that I will not be able to loose and keep the wt. off. Have to get another hobby
I am 8 weeks post surgery and I did the same thing about 4 weeks post. Not sure why, but my family and neighbors had lots of baked goodies. It did do one thing for me...it cleaned out my cupboards of the things that I can't have in my diet. I also have been watching cooking shows to get some ideas on low fat and calorie meals that I can cook that will satisfy both me and my family.
OMG!!! Its funny you say this happened to you as well. For a couple of months I was on this cooking spree. Most of the foods were Bariatric friendly but others werent. My family started calling me Betty Crocker and Martha Stewart I just couldnt stop cooking. Im not a baker and never have been but this desire was so strong yet strange to me... I never asked anyone about it because I thought it was a mental process that I needed to go thru due to the elimination of certain foods I could enjoy. I was pleased to see my friends and family members enjoy the foods that I prepared so it really didnt bother me but I did notice this strange behavior. The experience of trying different receipes from bariatriceating.com and some of the other websites were comforting and fun to me. Im not a big sweet eater but the sugar free peanut brittle were good and a big hit at my xmas party and job potluck.
It is around three months out for me now. I still am doing a lot of cooking, but not as much baking. I am trying to cook things that I can eat too. I am finding recipes for chicken, ham, and other proteins. so far it is staisfying my need to bake without making my family gain weight. I realixed I had to make a change, when my husband was gaining almost as fast as I was losing.
This is just so totally freaky!! Why do we do this?? I just wish I had your will power. Sometimes the thought of having the batter on my fingers creeps me out, but sometimes I do eat batter/finished product. I never thought to give it to the neighbors though (brain dead, much?) So my kids have gained some weight! I hope someone out there has an answer. This really is just too weird!
One thing I have learned to accept about my wife is that she loves to cook. People rave about her cheese cake but she doesn't even taste it. She simply doesn't like it. But, she makes cookies and dips pretzels in chocolate to send "goodies" packages to family and friends. Unfortunately, the shipping costs more than the ingredients.
She used to bake cookies and bring them to work. I allow her to do that on occasion since we don't have much money now. But, from doing that, she's had several people approach her to bake for them. She's worked up a way to have them pay for the ingredients.
Cooking or baking can be a very rewarding hobby. There is really no reason to stop doing it unless you start sampling.

I know no one has posted to this thread in ages, but I'm glad I found this. I'm 18 mos post op and love to bake as well. I'm always baking stuff for my co-workers and I've become a little obsessed about looking up recipes.
My bf is on a health kick right now so i'm always looking for new things to cook for him and myself, never make the same thing twice and have amassed quite the collection of recipes lol .... glad to know i'm not the only one :)
