8 yrs post op... gaining weight back
Hi Laurie! I am new to the board too, I joined because i have recently gained 20 pounds (5yrs post op) so3 weeks ago i ran to my surgeon to beg for stomaphyx and she kindly informed me that i have picked up so many bad habits that i am eating around the bypass. My biggest sins have been drinking with meals (soooooo bad for us WLS patients) getting very little protein, and little excercise. She advised me to go back to the early stages and make sure i am getting at least 75 gr protein daily and said that i CAN lose the weight again, if I follow the rules. So for the past 3 weeks I have gotten back with the program and I have already dropped 6 pounds! I would suggest that you go see your surgeon, and evaluate your habits. I have been researching online and realize that I basically had gone back to a lifestyle of a "normal" eater. I had never participated in support groups and I think that is so much more important for us than many realize. I would also evaluate how your support system is at home. If you sit them down and explain that you MUST rededicate your life to the WLS lifestyle and get them on board too, you will be ahead of the game! I wish you the best of luck and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers! Contact me anytime if you just want to bounce ideas off of someone!

I'm new to the board too! But joined for the very same reason. I have regained about 30 pounds and am scared to death. I have gone back to old habits and no exercise. I noticed that Al Roker (Today Show) had gained some of his weight back and a few weeks ago he was on saying that he had gotten lax in his habits and had to get back on track. This is such a lifestyle and I am having to learn that.
I to had my surgery 5 years ago and I have gained as well, I got pregnant less then 2 years out...I gained 60lbs with that pregnancy I have lost 25 of it but am really stuggling with the rest. I had someone tell me to do the 5 day pouch test...not recommended, I got very sick! Good Luck getting back on track...I think we get discouraged because the pounds dont just fall off like they did in the beginning but dont give up! Have A Great Day!!:)
I can SO relate. In the past year and a half, I have gained back about 70- pounds. I, too, feel like a failure, ashamed, and embarassed. That is why I came back here after being gone, oddly enough, about a year and a halt!
I know I am not eating as much as I did pre-surgery, but I am sure eating more than I should. I have not wanted to go back to my doctor because of my embarassment and shame. But, one of the other people *****sponded said that they did, and they got help to get them back on track, so I think I will do that, too. It will be hard, because I am ashamed, but I guess and hope they're there to help.
I don't know if you are exercising or not, but I slacked off on that, too. Beginning September 1, I made a committment to go work out 3x/week, and I only missed once in September, and I am going to continue that.
Good luck to you, and to all of us, in getting back on track!

Great Post, thanks!! i too am gaining after 3 nearly 4 years post op and know I haven't been eating right, or doing anything right as a matter of fact. I had been exercising regularly but then got blind sided by some family issues, and stopped going. I have been eating nothing but carbs, cannot stand the thought of protein, and drink sweet tea and no water. How does one go from being a good lap bander to a bad lapbander back to a good lapbander? That also applies to RnY or any of the surgeries, really.
Im frustrated and disgusted. Ready to turn this thing around. Who's with me?
I had mine in oct. of 2001. In the last year and a half or so I have gained about 25 lbs. I recently joined on here to get the support, help, ideas, etc that I know will help me get that weight back off. I have gotten way off track with my eating habits. Snack through the night, drinking beer and soda, not thinking about my protein first, and drinking with my meals!!!! For myself I know I need to relearn a bit about how to use my tool.
