Hi there!

I'm 14 days post op and landed in the hospital over the holiday weekend due to a leak.  I went 4 days without eating because I was on an IV.  Then they switched me to a clear liquid diet which
I'll  be on until at least next week.

I'm struggling with it, for some reason I can't seem to stomach chicken broth and beef broth anymore.  Even Jello is hard to get down.  Everything tastes awful.  It doesn't help that the antibiotics leave a horrible bitter taste in my mouth no matter what I try.

The thought of drinking chicken or beef broth for breakfast makes me want to throw up.

I'm trying to get my vitamins etc. in which is not easy either because I have to time them 6 hours around my antiobiotics (which I take around the clock)

I'm concerned about the lack of protein right now.

Anyone have any suggestions?  I've tried Unjury in my broth...I can't tolerate it.

Help!!!

I tried pro protien from vitamin city, it was the only one i could stomach (chololate flavor and vanilla)  and it has 50 grams of protien.  broth was too fatty for me and I had jello in the hospital and it was awful and have not had it since.

I took my actigall with protien because if i did not, I would have the flavor in my mouth all day.

Hope this helps, good luck

Eating the same stuff over and over again - especially broth - is so boring and it's no wonder your body is rebelling against it. The drugs are also probably not helping your appetite either. When I was on antibiotics everything was so unappetizing. If this carries on in the next day or so definitely go and see someone. You don't want it to cause more problems later on. And yes if you are worried about your protein levels you could consider taking the actigall with protein. Good luck!!

Hi,
Hang in there, it will get better. I had a leak as well. I had the same problem with Unjury and the others. One thing i did was freeze protein drinks in those popcicle makers. I also used the New Protein shots, they have 46grams protein in 3oz. For Vitamins, I used dermal vitamins. I found them at the Pharmacy, the brand is Sea Blue. I wish you well.

I am 6 weeks post op myself. I did not have a leak or anything like that but I did experience just about every other negative side effect that I could've had. I couldn't stand the post op liquids with the broth, jello, protein shakes all that crap. My taste buds have COMPLETELY changed so that combined with eating/drinking the same things over and over have wreaked havoc on eating.

It doesnt make it any easier to hear this but...it will get better....it will pass....its normal. I had to be told that before I could accept it and try to move on. I sat there and cried and cried when they told me that.
