Unable to keep food in......

I had my surgery on Feb 16th, I went home on the 17th feeling good and on the 18th my daughter brought me a stomach virus - of all things........Nothing wants to stay in.  I
develop that telltale lump in my throat and I know I am off to the bathroom to get rid of the offensive food.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  For the first few weeks even water was offensive.  I am really getting tired of tomato soup and mashed potatoes but these two things seem to be the only things that will stay down.

My daughter had the sleeve surgery on 3/1.  She is also unable to keep anything down, except skim milk and mashed potatoes.  No stomach virus in her case, just constant nausea and no apetite at all.  She's feeling very weak & shaky most of the time.  I had the sleeve done on 2/1 and have had no problems at all...other than hitting a plateau for 2 weeks.  :o(   Any suggestions for my daughter?

She's a newbie, there will be food intolerances in the beginning.  She needs to give it time.

Usually the shakes are from low blood sugar, she would be wise to knock out the carbs.   They cause blood sugar spikes and that in turn causes low blood sugar.  I'll bet you a dollar it's her choice in high carb potatoes and milk.

What about a protein shake made with water instead of milk?  Veggie soup blended if need be?

At this point you have little choice but to stick with what works.  If you want other foods I would find less carby type foods for better weight loss.

It seems that everyone recovers a little differently from the sleeve surgery.  I have had no trouble at all.  My daughter began heaving and throwing up within 2 hrs of her surgery, and still throws up at least once a day.  Her progress is so slow...it's a major success when she is able to take in 1/4 cup of ANYTHING and keep it down.

I wonder if she isn't working on a stricture.  If the fluid is verrry thin like water does that go down better?

Personally, if it was me I'd start on an anti-emetic like Compazine, Zofran, something like that.  I would also make sure she's taking a PPI such as Prilosec.  If that doesn't do the trick I'd be getting a barium swallow to see what is going on.

Drinking alot of Chicken Noodle soup broth here too. Also if there is a crackel Barrell near by go tell them you want some chicken and dumpling's broth no  dumplings, they sell it to me a quart for $2.40. Heat it up with a little milk for a little variety. I'm also eating alot of beans, kidney, pinto, blackeye peas. Those little cans of beany weany's are high in protine 16 I think and low in sugar.
Hope you get well soon, I hate to be sick!
