Beck's Diet Solution thread on this forum

I know that there is a Beck's Diet Solution Group that started about a week ago.  However, when I look there it's hard to follow.  The leader of the group is posting where she is on a daily basis.  That is fine, but anyone having any difficulty with it may not know where to turn for help.  I'm not an expert, but I did manage to lose 50 lbs using the Beck's Diet Solution by myself last year.  Then, I floundered and haven't lost any weight since then.  I only put 3 lbs back on which I find amazing.

I suggest that we allow anyone who wants to follow Beck's through this forum to pick up either the original hardcover version or the softcover workbook between now and Valentine's day, 02-14-10.  NOTE:  you only need one of the two and I recommend the workbook for post-ops.  I didn't know that when I bought both of them last year.  Even the author, Dr Judith Beck, says you only need one of them.  Read the introductory chapters--chapters 1-4.  As a group, we can start with week 1 Day 1 during the week of 02-15-10 thru 02-21-10,  That will give anyone starting out a chance to read the thread and respond.  I know that this is a very slow way to do this and I suspect that most people will work faster than this individually.  This way, we can work, as a group, on one "Day" or lesson per week.  The Beck's Diet solution consists of 6 weeks of 7 days apiece for a total of 42 Day or 42 lessons.  By taking a Day per calendar week, we can cover all 42 days in 42 calendar weeks, ie, through mid Dec 2010.

Again, as individuals you can go faster.  But as a group this seems to be a way to work it.  I favor going this way right on this forum since the forum goes relatively slowly.  Anyone can respond to this thread.

I suggest that you get a notebook--any notebook-- or write your daily lessons on your computer.  I suggest not writing in the hardcover or workbook because if you do, your prior thoughts may affect how you respond in the future.  For example, you may have certain feelings about dieting now that may change as you work through the program.  If you restart the program for any reason, then you may want to start out clean.

You may want to look through my Latest Posts to see how I was doing last year from Jan through May.  While I was working the program I had something I've rarely had wheih is the freedom from compulsive eating.  It was a pure joy to be able to go out for a ride and not even think about cheating.  I used to eat in the car--heck, I used to eat anywhere, everywhere, and at anytime.  I quickly became clean while on the program.

Don't let my failure to stay with it be a discouragement.  Most of you know that I am manic-depressive and on meds but I still battle the demon of depression from time to time.  I heartily endorse using the Beck's Diet Solution.

I hope many of you will respond to the thread about the Beck's Diet Solution.  I am incapable of running a group, but I am eager to respond and be part of a self-help and mutual help group.  Bob

This is a good time for me to be reading the introductory chapters and refocusing on following a nutritious diet/food plan.  Having Week 1 Day 1 start next week with the beginning of Lent is just coincidence.  For those who believe in the prep in that season, it's an added incentive to follow Beck's.  There have been many years where I've just excused myself from following the dietary restrictions of Lent because I KNEW that I couldn't go a single day without addictive food and compulsive eating.  That was not the case last year and I have the opportunity to enjoy that freedom from compulsive eating again this year.  I look forward to your support.  Bob

while reading chapters 1-4, I realized that it's much easier to write directly in the book(s).  However, I still feel that using a notebook once you get to chaper 5 will help a lot.  Only you can decide whether to use one notebook for both your food tally and your daily lesson (which may take more than one calendar day)  or use separate notebooks for each.

I'm actually getting excited about becoming abstinate again.

I just discovered this forum.

I bought the book a few weeks ago but haven't really even thumbed through it yet. I'm at goal and maintaining but I do realize that maintaining is probably harder than losing, at least for me.

I don't keep trigger foods in my house. There is no sugar, flour, pasta, or potatoes. Sugar was never really my trigger food, anything with flour was.

I'll read the book at least on your schedule, perhaps a bit faster. I have so many books I am trying to get through that I usually just take a day or so and read the whole thing. I don't know, maybe with this book I'll need to take it more slowly.

I'd suggest cross posting this on the main board, I don't think many realize this forum exists.

I think that you will be an asset to the discussions on this topic.  I just don't know about posting of the Main Forum since topics go by so quickly.  What the heck, it can't hurt.  I am mentioning working Beck's on a couple other forums.  I know that this forum goes slowly enough for people to keep up with the discussion.  I'll start my thread on Week 1 Day 1 iater today.  I'm a bit drowsy and I want to have my copy of Beck's by me when I do post here.
