Hello All,

My lapband surgery was 5/09. To date I have lost 61 pounds, but have had only lost 10 pounds of that since October. I never envisioned that my weight loss would be this slow and I know my effort is a part of this. I have some general questions to ask to see if I am hitting personal road blocks or if others experience the same types of things.

My band is filled at 9.5 cc now, it is supposed to hold 10 cc. I feel no different than when it held 6, 7, or 8 cc. I want to eat more than I should, my doctor is telling me 1.5 cups per meal. I could eat more if I wanted most of the time as I still feel hungry even afer a half hour.

Does anyone ever eat and feel full instantly or does it always take time?

I feel that I am eating enough protein, is this more mental hunger or how full should I feel? I read about people eating 2-3 ounces of food and feeling full. I have never had that.

I have been more hungry lately, wanting to snack even after an acceptable meal. Sometimes I do, sometimes I dont.

I am feeling a little down about my journey, I do not want to be done!

Anyone have any advice they can lend to help me get my focus back...this road can be a long one and it is hard!

Thanks in advance.

Hi Luv - the surgery is but one tool.  I know I need all the tools I can get (support, friends, meditation, journaling, visualization, exercise, snuggling with my cat(s), hot baths, good books, and anything else I can think of to soothe myself when I want to eat.   Make a list of tools, and when you want to eat, get out your list and do at least 3 things on the list before you decide whether or not to eat.  After a long cat snuggle, a bath and a couple of chapters in a good book, oft-times, my cravings go away.
Also make a list of what triggers your cravings (for me: work, stress, TV, dehydration, certain people).  Avoid when you can and write about it when you can't avoid it.  Practice letting go of the craving, the stress or any other bad feeling (watch it float away in bubble, then another bubble, then another bubble, until all the causes of the stress are gone)  (Or visualize yourself filled with a healing light that pours through the top of your head and down through the bottom of your feet - it flows out taking all the stress and cravings with it, leaving you filled with a healing light that completely obliterates any desire for food).

See!  Tools!  You have lots!  And now you have  band that will allow you to actually use some of these other tools!

I had gastric bypass just over 3 years ago and like you still had trouble getting to my goal... a few weeks ago I found Herbalife and it has gotten me back on track.. it is based off of protein and nutrition... PERFECT for WLS patients... and they have all kinds of things available to put together what's just right for you and everything you order comes from an independent distributor that's there for you and willing to help when you need... at least mine is!
his website to order from is www.jraymall.com
I've been so happy with my latest results that I'm passing it along!!

I'm still a newbie with WLS but I know a whole lot about dieting - I've been doing it all my life! It sounds to me that what you need are foods that have more volume but not necessarily more calories. These types of foods are salads. At one point when I was doing Weigh****chers - quite successfully at the time, I may add -  I would prepare huge salads in an extra large bowl. I would fill it with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, fresh mushrooms, radishes and in general any kind of vegetable I could eat raw. I was very careful about the amount of oil I would put in the dressing but I used lemon juice freely. A salad like that would hold me all day and I did not have a small stomach!
I would suggest you make your salads larger and larger until you fgure out exactly how much your stomach can hold and of course, do discuss your band with your surgeon. It may need a little tghtening.

I have been using a meal plan service.  Portion controlled, friendly to weight loss surgery patients and inexpensive.  It is called Bandtastic Meals.  My doctor had a support group meeting and they did a tasting, from that moment I was hooked because it actually tastes good.  I also suggest attending multiple support groups to help you through this part of your journey.
